Jan Potgieter is living proof that farmers are a special breed. Despite life in the countryside not always being safe for our farmers and their workers, they keep doing the hard work year after year, cultivating the crops that feed the nation. Like many others, Jan’s farm is a family business; he has been on the farm for 40 years, taking over from his dad 30 years ago. He talks fondly of his farm, his wife, his son and daughter, and his farmworkers, and he still loves going for long walks in the mountains when he can find the time in his busy schedule that often keeps him up late at night.
But times have changed and nowadays, farmers need all the help they can get. Costs have escalated, and borrowing is expensive, so Jan has to run a tight ship to ensure his success. In order to diversify and spread his risk, he now farms maize, soybeans, sheep, and cattle. This is also one of the reasons why he has become an avid user of Timac AGRO products. He reviewed the products and decided to give D-Coder Top 15 a try on his maize. His reasoning was that, even if it works no better than a traditional fertiliser, the application amounts are significantly smaller, so he would at least be able to save on transport costs. Jan is a practical man, and every little bit helps in the end!
Needless to say, he was pleasantly surprised to find that his yields were better by 500 kg per hectare straight away on D-Coder. He says that he is delighted with D-Coder’s formulation that doesn’t burn the seed and makes all the nutrients that the plant needs available. However, as impressive as these gains were, something else impressed him even more – Timac AGRO’s 150-day interest-free account. This, he says, is what sets Timac apart from the rest. But why?
Jan says that farmers have a tough job and with the unpredictability of the weather, the things that farmers can really depend on become even more important to them. To him, the 150-day account is proof that Timac is not just there to drop products on the farm, not to be seen again until next year. It means that Timac is committed to walk with their farmer, be there to make their lives easier, save them money, and build a long-term relationship based on actual results. In fact, if a company is not confident in its products, why would it extend such credit to its farmers and be willing to delay repayment for five months?
He has not experienced this kind of support from other companies and to him, this is Timac AGRO making good on its promise to walk with the farmer. It’s easy for an agricultural supplier to say that it is not about price, but in South Africa, fertilisers are often treated as simple commodities because “they are all the same” and “everybody needs fertiliser”. But in the end, the results speak for themselves and Jan has come to the conclusion that Timac’s products are worth every cent, thanks to the greatly improved yields and lower volumes required. This is why we spend time with our farmers, because if you apply the correct products in the correct way, you get the results – and farmers like Jan will always opt for a good deal that adds value to their crops.
If all goes well, Jan’s son and brother-in-law will join him on the farm and he will become an even more important cog in the country’s agricultural machine.

Timac Agro se kunsmis werk uitstekend in droogtetoestande – in vandag se tyd is alles gegrond op tegnologie, so waarom moet kunsmis agterbly?

Spring brings new life and lush green grazing for your animals, but there are some drawbacks that you need to be aware of. It might be beautiful to look at, but the green grass is still in its growth phase and while it contains a lot of nitrogen, it is normally deficient in calcium, magnesium, and sodium, which can upset animals’ stomachs, whether it be cattle, game, sheep, goats, or horses.
The excess of soluble nitrogen can lead to an ammonia build-up in the animals’ blood, resulting in mostly subclinical ammonia toxicity, which could lead to , amongst others, diarrhoea, lowered production, a decrease in fertility and milk production, subclinical acidosis, mastitis and laminitis.
If your pasture has been fertilised, especially with a potassium fertiliser, the excess of potassium, though very beneficial to the plant, inhibits the animal’s absorption of magnesium when grazing.
THE SOLUTION:
Calseamag+ contains Fix’N, which reduces ammonia production and increases the animal’s utilisation of the nitrogen in the grass, leading to improved digestion and production. It also contains added calcium from Calseagrit, which is a seaweed source and 80-90% available to the animal, compared to limestone that is, on average, 30-50% available to the animal. Calseagrit also aids in boosting the animal’s intestinal flora to improve digestion.
- Natrium verhoed oormatige gebruik.
- Calseamag+ help jou dier om meer te kry uit sy voeding.
Consider the following advantages:
- The added magnesium reduces stress in the animal and, in combination with the Calseagrit, helps buffer the stomach to prevent acidosis.
- The added sodium binds with the potassium to increase animal’s absorption of magnesium and other nutrients.
- Added selenium and vitamin E, essential for immunity, colostrum production, and fertility during the period when the young are born or animals are bred.
- Contains no urea.
- Animals cannot bite the blocks.
- Blocks do not dissolve in the rain.
- Sodium prevents overconsumption.
- Calseamag+ assists your animal to get more from your feed.

TIMAC AGRO, TRUSTED NUTRITIONALISTS
Timac Agro South Africa is the South African representative of the French based company, Groupe Roullier. Since 1959, Groupe Roullier has been meeting the needs of growers and breeders globally.
Timac AGRO South Africa has become an organization that farmers trust for their guidance and expertise in agronomy and animal nutrition, with the core of their business being providing their clients with best possible return on investment, by matching tailor-made solutions to their clients’ agricultural needs, such as specifics relating to their crops, climate, soil composition and water availability. This is achieved by covering the full spectrum of plant and animal nutrition, including single-granule fertilizers with precise agronomic formulas and engineered “specificities” unique to the organization.
This their clients can confirm. With clients such as Allesbeste Avocado Nursery and Willamien Roettgers from Campiesglen, there is definitely proven success in Timac AGRO’s unique approach to matching the exact product with the correct frequency to the unique needs of every client.
Allesbeste had Timac’s Fertiactyl GZ added to their nursery on different stages of growth to see if it the product would be beneficial to them. The product increases root development and improves soil exploration whilst improving the feeding capabilities of the plant by mobilizing nutrients in the soil. It promotes the uptake of all elements for improved function of chloroplasts, resulting in improved growth and reserve building. It aids the plant in coping under stress conditions by managing turgor pressure in plant cells whilst strengthening the natural defense system of the plant.
The end result was that Fertiactyl stimulated the roots to the point that the timeframe of seedling to tree ready for sale was reduced by 2 months.
On the macadamia side Willamien Roettgers of Campiesglen came on board. After supplying Timac with her leaf analysis, it was sent to various agri laboratories. Programmes were developed based on the results, and the programme best suited to Willamien’s agri needs was selected. This programme was followed rigorously with great results.
Her A4 macadamia trees were placed on Timac’s D-Coder single-granular fertilizer. Her 2 year 10 month old trees yielded 400kg/ha with 40.84% crack-out. D-Coder protects it’s nutriens against leaching, fixation, volatilization and retrogadation. It interprets plant root signals in the form of root exudates and releases its contained nutrients as required by the plant. It amplifies as activity in the rhizosphere is stimulated, improving plant-microbial interaction, organic matter mineralization and nutrient availability whilst maximizing root growth. D-Coder also contains a water-soluble nutrient fraction to supply the demand of initial growth phases.
Timac is extremely excited about the results with both Allesbeste and Campiesglen, and the team is looking forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with both these farms.
